As always, it is a tough decision...but Lissa gives us lots of guidance. After two audition concerts: each of the girls below will be awarded a college scholarship to take Melissa's dream of dancing to the college level: Autumn Marie Sanders Jasmine Isabelle Stack. This years winners are again an awesome tribute to Lissa's memory. Both are honors students (not a requirement), dance like angels, and have incredible characters. Jasmine started an after school dance club for students who could not add dance to their regular schedule due to stringent academic requirements (i.e. schedules too full). She has been the sole officer of this club for two years. She has choreographed and gave of her time daily after school so that the love of dance can be enjoyed by all. Since it's inception, the members of this club have perfomed their art in the schools' dance concerts. Many of these girls have no formal dance experience but they perform just as well as those who have. Jasmine has dreams of opening a dance studio for kids in this same situation after completing her masters in the Arts. Her heart for others and tenacity to dance despite obstacles reminds us so much of Melissa. Autumn, raised in a single parent family, is persuing a degree in youth bible education. This scholarship, in a small way, will allow her to continue to dance in college. Watching her dance is in fact, a religious experience. Watching her solo (choreographed solo to one of "Melissa's songs; " I Can Only Imagine") brought tears of joy to my eyes. Her choreography and dance ability span across many dance styles. Her hip hop left me short of breath - what energy!!! Her close relationship with her mom and heart to help others reminds us of our Lissabee. The scholarships awarded this year brings the total to date to $3200. The scholarship is funded 100% on your loving donations and every cent goes directly to the girls. We thank you for your continued contributions as they allow us to continue this scholarship in Lissa's memory. This week, we will be meeting with this years recipients and their families. This is always a wonderful, but emotionally tearful experience. I know that Melissa is there with us, as we celebrate her love for the art of dance. In Memory of the world's most incredible daughter, Melissa Danielle "Lissabee" Andersen (3/15/85 - 7/20/03) I HOPE YOU DANCE.....for her. Sam Andersen, Lissa's Mome ![]() |
